I want to make a major post to help people in their "no-chew" epic eating endeavors as they recover from surgeries or are forced to not chew due to pain.
A Question for everyone (about format): Should I do it in pictures and words, or just a list? What do you think would be more helpful? Let me know. Comment, email, or write on our Facebook group's wall.
Here is one example:
Rib-Eye Steak (Medium), sauteed zucchini and onion, and loaded baked potato.
Also, it would be great if everyone could share their suggestions. You can leave a comment or email me, and I will post it to the blog. Or as always, you can share it on our Facebook group, and I will also post it to the blog for readers who do not use Facebook.
More pictures of meals I have eaten without chewing:
Squash, steamed broccoli and okra, pressure-cooked barbecue ribs, and flavored rice
Vienna sausage in flavored rice
Red Lobster Crab crusted tilapia with mashed potatoes and loaded baked potato
(Half-eaten :-)
That looks pretty tasty. I would like to eat that potato right off the plate!
ReplyDeleteHave you tried couscous? That is pretty yummy and you don't have to chew it too much (or at all).
Hey that looks really really good. Btw, I never chew my food either, I do not know why, I guess my jaw feels stiff when I do. I usually just swallow everything. My mom gets really mad lol. My jaw TMJ kinda scts up if i talk a lot for a really long time then stop like at work if my line is really busy I will talk a lot and when there's practically no customers for a while it hurts.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comments Otto and Jenn! Otto, are you by any chance a vegetarian? If so, do you mind sharing some vegetarian no-chew ideas for vegetarian TMJD people?
ReplyDeleteHello, my physical therapist, Vickie, from Coastal Therapeutics gave me your card so that I could check out your website. I had TMJ and lower jaw surgery on Aug. 2. I was wired shut for 6 weeks after ther surgery and had to drink everything. My mother-in-law gave me a fantastic Kitchen-Aid blender as a gift and it was the best thing ever. I simply liquified whatever meals I cooked for my husband and son and drank it instead of eating it. My favorite meal was whole wheat pasta, rotisserie chicken, dijon mustard and Italian dressing liquified! It was fantastic. I am now on a no-chewing diet until May and will receive my Herbst appliance next week. I do not feel deprived because like you, I simply cut everything into tiny pieces and use my tongue to mash the food and swallow whole. I would love to share my before and after pics with you. Good luck with everything! :) Cecilia
ReplyDeleteHey Cecilia! Vicki is my PT too of course. I felt better at first then felt worse, and now I am feeling better, but not well. It has been nearly 6 months...surgery was May 24 2011. Sound like yours was a bit more complicated. If you want to send me pics feel free. I will even post them on the blog if you want. Also there is a Facebook group tmJointVenture if you want to post on there. Good luck to you too. I know I had/am having more pain than the average person even though I am younger than most, but I am getting through it, I hope you can get some relief. Keep me updated through email or blog or whatever :) I am just so ready to be able to take the splint out! My next video or post should be a good one when I get around to it. Good luck! -Kimberly
